The knobs on the front panel of Aviary II (fauconnerie) control a video matrix mixer with the results displayed on the screen below. The slot on the side holds Space Relations—a slightly Gothic interplanetary tale by Donald Barr. Aviary II references the work and process of Joseph Cornell, specifically Untitled (Forgotten Game) (nd), part of his series Aviary.
Video Channel 1: A Peregrine Falcon circles above Little Saint James island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, mashed up, somewhat clumsily, from two Youtube videos: the first, an amateur video of a Peregrine falcon circling overhead; the second, drone footage of Little Saint James’s various natural and manmade features, including the now-famous “temple”, a sun dial, and the luxurious main residence.
Channel 2: excerpts from UFO CoverUp Live (1988) featuring “Falcon”, a “Govt. Intelligence Official”, shown only in shadow and heavily voice-altered, with TOP SECRET stamped across the frames introducing his remarks. Falcon confirms that the U.S. Government has hosted ET “guests” since the late 1940’s and informs us that the extraterrestrials’ “favorite dish or snack is ice cream. Especially strawberry.”
